Janet Uchacz-Hart was a secondary education teacher for 21 years before assuming the Executive Director position with the Saskatoon Industry Education Council for the past 16 years. Through a partnership among business, K-12 and post-secondary schools, Janet and her team have created unique hands-on career exploration events and programs designed to connect youth with current and future workforce needs. Last year, the SIEC worked with over 20,000 youth from Saskatoon Public Schools, Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools, Prairie Spirit School Division, Saskatoon Tribal Council and other provincial and federal schools throughout the province along with thousands of educators and career practitioners and business and post-secondary representatives to co-create 45 programs and events.
Programs including SaskCode including RoboX (coding and computational thinking for K-12); Newcomer Youth Engagement Program (Immigrant and Refugee Youth); Connected: Young Women Exploring Careers, Spotlight on Careers, HealthLink, Digitized, Cardboard Boat Race Challenge (STEM program), Summer Youth Internship, Boot Camps, Financial Literacy programming, Contact Conference (Career Development) and Relevance Magazine (provincial career magazine for youth).
