Dr. Lisa Avery was appointed the president of Portland Community College’s Sylvania Campus in July 2015 and also serves on the national board of directors for the American Association of Community Colleges. In her role, she is responsible for leading PCC’s largest and oldest campus, which is home to nearly 33,000 students, approximately 1,300 employees, and the cutting-edge MakerLab. Since Dr. Avery’s start, she has been an advocate for student success, increased student access, sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion, and continuing to grow and support PCC’s stellar academic programs, which include nursing and dental hygiene. Prior to her work at PCC, Dr. Avery served as Chief International Officer and Vice Provost at Community Colleges of Spokane, leading outreach, innovation and external partnerships. She was also a full professor at Eastern Washington University in the School of Social Work and Human Services and associate dean of Eastern Washington’s College of Social Sciences, providing oversight to programs in Africana Education, Native American Studies and Chicano Studies.
