Senator Mia Costello is a lifelong Alaskan representing West Anchorage in the Alaska Legislature. She currently serves as Chair of the Senate Labor and Commerce Committee, and Co-Chair of the Joint Armed Services Committee. Mia’s legislative focus is on innovation and developing Alaska’s long-term economic future to provide the best opportunities for future Alaskans. She introduced groundbreaking tax incentives for startups that led to Fast Company magazine naming Alaska one of the top five states for innovation. Mia successfully passed legislation to bring equity crowdfunding to Alaska, and her bill opened Alaska to transportation network companies like Uber and Lyft. Mia passed legislation proclaiming 2019 to be “The Year of Innovation” in Alaska. Mia founded and co-chairs the bicameral bipartisan Alaska Innovation Caucus. Mia is a Harvard graduate, earning her MAT from University of Alaska Southeast.
