Tristan Skolrud completed his undergraduate, Masters, and PhD degrees in economics and applied economics (masters) at Washington State University in 2008, 2009, and 2015, respectively. Additionally, he obtained his Masters in Economics at the University of Washington in 2011.
 
During his PhD, Dr. Skolrud focused his studies on agricultural and resource economics. He developed a new tool for modeling the production process, and critically analyzed the imposition of a revenue-neutral carbon tax designed to stimulate the production of cellulosic ethanol. He has presented his research at conferences and universities across the United States and Canada.
 
Dr. Skolrud has published in a variety of outlets, including recent papers in the Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics, the Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Energy Economics, and Applied Economics. In 2016, he accepted a position as a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Saskatchewan.
Since his arrival at the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Skolrud has focused his research on several issues relating to Canadian agriculture, including optimal carbon policy, land use decisions, agri-environmental regulation, organic adoption, and trends in industry consolidation.
